What Is The Difference Between Archives And Records Management?

“Records Management” and “Archives Management” are repeatedly used interchangeably but they do not mean the same.

What is Records Management?

Records management and filing is responsible for supervising the management of records inside an organization from the time of creation to disposition. The efficient and systematic management of the creation, maintenance, use, and disposal of records is known as records management.

What is Archives Management?

An organizations repository which stores permanently important records is known as an archive. Archives are created when a company which created the records/documents no longer needs it for business purposes; the records are legally transferred to an archive for researchers so that it can be utilized to document the history of the organization that created the records. Archival records are made available to the public whenever required.

Records Management and Archival Management complement each other but are relatively different.
